After two weeks of inspiration and innovation that had SIGGRAPH 2020 participants thinking beyond, the first-ever virtual conference is coming to a close…at least as far as live sessions are concerned. With hundreds of now on-demand-only sessions to choose from, we’re here to highlight some of the great work you may have missed over the past two weeks. Luckily, registration is still open through 11 September and content is available to participants through 27 October. Use this guide to check out the 10 most-added sessions.
1. ILM Presents: The Making of “Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker”

Though you can no longer interact with the presenters, check out this deep dive into the making of the final installment of the Skywalker saga, “Star Wars: Rise of Skywalker”. The team pulls back the curtain to reveal how they tackled the creation of the film’s 1,700+ visual effects shots. From practical models and miniatures to advanced digital simulations for pyrotechnics and a new fluid simulation system created to achieve the exceedingly high level of realism the filmmaker’s demanded, the team will delve will dig into what worked and what didn’t on the road to creating the final shots.
2. Technical Papers Fast Forward

Watch an entertaining, illuminating summary of the most innovative research of the year from the SIGGRAPH 2020 Technical Papers. In this session, the author(s) of each paper have a little less than a minute to wow the crowd with the results of their research.
3. Ray Tracing in Unreal Engine, Presented by NVIDIA
Available to all registrants.
Understand how to achieve great results with real-time, ray-traced reflections, global illumination, shadows, and more and see upcoming ray-tracing features in Unreal Engine 4.
4. Keynote Session: Invent the Impossible With Marco Tempest

7. The Future of Immersive Filmmaking: Behind the Scenes at Intel Studios, Presented by Intel
Available to all registrants.
The world’s largest volumetric capture studio opens its doors for a behind-the-scenes tour of Intel Studios! This session encapsulates Intel’s pipeline to entangle technical challenges of 10x scale in time/space, introduces its capabilities over traditional filmmaking, and showcases sneak peeks of upcoming productions.
8. Physically Based Shading in Theory and Practice
Available to Ultimate Supporter, Ultimate Attendee, and Exhibitor Ultimate registrants.
This Course uses examples from film and games to present advances in physically based shading in theory and production practices, demonstrating how it enhances realism and leads to more intuitive and faster art creation.

10. Fundamentals of Color Science

Color science quantifies the physical and perceptual aspects of color to facilitate the measurement, representation, communication, and control of color. This Course introduces the fundamentals of color science and its applications in graphics and imaging.
