Have you ever wondered about the expert jurors behind all of the amazing conference content you see each year? Wonder no more! In this series, we’re bringing the SIGGRAPH 2019 juries to you. This week, get to know SIGGRAPH 2019 Technical Papers Committee Member Ken Museth, of Weta Digital. Read on to learn about Ken’s background and how he stays inspired.
SIGGRAPH: What is the best career advice you’ve ever received? Who gave it?
Ken Museth (KM): Be deliberate and passionate about your choices, and don’t forget that the difference between failure and success is often just one more attempt.
SIGGRAPH: What technology doesn’t get a lot of love, but has greatly improved the world?
KM: Data structures! They are everywhere and yet we rarely talk about them, let alone notice. They are like the unsung heroes of applied computer science.
SIGGRAPH: Share a resource you frequent for inspiration.
KM: NPR News and ACM Digital Library.
SIGGRAPH: What excites you most about your work? Where does your passion come from?
KM: Working in the intersection of fields like computer science, physics, chemistry and applied mathematics. And the endless supply of challenging problems in VFX.
SIGGRAPH: Share a fond SIGGRAPH memory.
KM: SIGGRAPH 2000 in New Orleans was absolutely epic! My first and wildest SIGGRAPH ever. I still crack up reminiscing about it.
