Chris Bremble, founder and CEO of Base Media, has helped redefine what’s possible in visual effects (VFX) and animation across Asia and Hollywood. Since launching Base FX in 2005, he has led the studio to international acclaim — earning three Primetime Emmy Awards for “The Pacific”, “Boardwalk Empire”, and “Black Sails”; VES and BAFTA Awards for “Star Wars: The Force Awakens”; and a Hong Kong Film Award for “Monster Hunt”, while contributing to multiple Academy Award–nominated films.
In 2012, Bremble forged a strategic alliance with Industrial Light & Magic, Lucasfilm’s legendary VFX powerhouse. This collaboration propelled Base onto the global stage, contributing to blockbusters such as “Pacific Rim”, “Transformers: Age of Extinction”, and “Star Wars: The Force Awakens”. More recently, the studio has brought its artistry to “Deadpool & Wolverine”, “Thor: Love and Thunder”, “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever”, “Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania”, “Obi-Wan Kenobi”, and “Star Wars: Skeleton Crew”.
Expanding into animation, Bremble launched Base Animation in 2016. The studio’s debut feature, “Wish Dragon” — a co-production with Sony Pictures and Tencent Pictures — premiered in China in 2021 and became one of Netflix’s most-watched global releases. The film was directed by Chris Appelhans, who co-wrote and co-directed this year’s sensation “K-Pop Demon Hunters”.

At SIGGRAPH Asia 2025, Bremble will present his latest work, “Dynamic Simulations on Ne Zha 2”. In this highly anticipated session, he will share behind-the-scenes insights into how Base Animation is pushing the limits of simulation technology to achieve breathtaking, physically authentic effects and emotionally resonant storytelling in one of China’s most awaited animated sequels.
