Award-winning Films

‘Yallah!’

“Yallah!” secured the Best Student Project title for the SIGGRAPH 2022 Electronic Theater. “Yallah!” takes place in 1982 Beirut, where Nicolas prepares to flee his hometown that has been torn apart by endless civil war. Nicolas crosses paths with Naji, a reckless teenager determined to go to the swimming pool. The film previously took home the VIEW Award Jury Prize at VIEW Conference in Turin, Italy. During this panel, get a behind-the-scenes look at this film from Director Nayla Nassar (Rubika, France).

‘The Seine’s Tears’

“The Seine’s Tears” takes home the coveted Best in Show title for SIGGRAPH 2022. This short film, from Pôle 3D, brings viewers back to Paris on 17 October 1961, where Algerian workers took to the streets to manifest against the mandatory curfew imposed by the police prefecture. “The Seine’s Tears” is no stranger to awards. It was honored with the Best Animated Short Film at Warsaw Film Festival; the Winner, Student Shorts, at SPARK ANIMATION; Best Student Project at SIGGRAPH Asia; and the Special Effects Award at Clermont-Ferrand International Short Film Festival. Hear more about the film from Directors Yanis Belaid and Eliott Benard (Pôle 3D, France) during this panel.

‘The End of War’

“The End of War” is making its world premiere at the SIGGRAPH 2022 Electronic Theater. Plus, this short film earned the Jury’s Choice award. Director Lei Chen (Tsinghua University) joins this panel to share more about this independently produced film. “The End of War” is an anti-war short animation filmed with hundreds of individually CG sculptures modeled by the director. The film’s theme is about life, death, and the nature of war, sharing the message of peace prevailing on Earth.
