Your Guide to the Virtual SIGGRAPH 2021 Electronic Theater

Grab your popcorn and your closest animation-fan friends. The SIGGRAPH 2021 Computer Animation Festival Electronic Theater, a qualifying festival for the Academy Awards®, lineup is live! It’s time to dive in to the 37 short films, cinematics, scientific visualizations, breakdowns and more set to make an appearance. It’s never too soon to start planning your watch party — the Electronic Theater premieres to ticketholders on Monday, 9 August at 8:00 am PDT.

For the first time ever, the show will be available in two versions. Read on to browse the film guide, check out selection highlights, and find out how you can access the premiere during SIGGRAPH 2021.

The SIGGRAPH 2021 Electronic Theater features six curated, 14 student, and 17 professional studio productions, including two world-premiere short films as well as the jury-voted award winners.

World Premieres

Julian Tuwin: To Everyman” (Platige Image S.A.) is a manifesto that uncovers political propaganda techniques, including revelations of the manipulations to paint war as necessary and make it widely accepted by society. Based on the graphic novel by Eric Drooker, “Blood Song: A Silent Ballad” (Zati Studio, Thai Media Fund) features an innocent young girl whose life was drastically altered by war.

How to Watch

Now that you’re counting down to the Electronic Theater premiere, it’s time to reserve your ticket. Tickets to access the virtual Electronic Theater can be purchased separately or added to any SIGGRAPH 2021 registration. Choose between general ticket access and the all-new premium ticket, which includes a director’s cut version of the Electronic Theater.

Once purchased, ticket holders can access the Electronic Theater program by unlocking their personalized code any time between Monday, 9 August at 8:00 am PDT and Wednesday, 8 September at 11:59 pm PDT. Remember, viewing access expires 48 hours after unlocking a code.

Plan a Watch Party

Now that tickets are available to all, invite your friends from inside and outside of the computer graphics community to enjoy the Electronic Theater along with you. Whether you watch with your quarantine pod or virtually connect with SIGGRAPH friends from around the globe, make this year’s Electronic Theater an experience to remember. SIGGRAPH 2021 will be facilitating two watch party chats via Discord during the live conference week. Stay tuned for more information about these and other sessions as we approach the premiere.
