SIGGRAPH 2018 Submissions: What You Should Know

Registration is Open for SIGGRAPH 2018

“At SIGGRAPH 2018, we invite you to be a part of history in the making as we celebrate our 45th conference and the innovation that has always been at the core of SIGGRAPH. It is no accident that our theme this year is ‘Generations.’ Over the years, a long legacy of scientists, thinkers, artists, engineers, and visionaries have made SIGGRAPH the best place to experience the bleeding edge of computer graphics and interactive techniques. I invite you to continue inspiring the next generation of dreamers and thinkers, and submit your best work today.” —Roy C. Anthony, SIGGRAPH 2018 Conference Chair

As the 2018 SIGGRAPH Call for Submissions opens, we look forward to celebrating the synergy of art, science, and technology that has always been a hallmark of the SIGGRAPH conference experience. And we eagerly anticipate the research, new technologies, and innovative ideas that will be submitted. The content that is ultimately chosen is the foundation for why we gather every year — to be amazed and delighted by the scientific, creative, and technological advances in our community. As always, submissions are reviewed and evaluated by highly experienced and qualified juries comprised of top scholars and practitioners.

If you are considering submitting your best work to SIGGRAPH 2018 in Vancouver, here are some important things to keep in mind.

Changes to the Submissions Portal
SIGGRAPH 2018 has transitioned from the SIGGRAPH Information System (SIS) to a new submission and review system, powered by Linklings, LLC.

One important change is that all users must create an account in the new system as user accounts have not been transferred from SIS to Linklings. Over the years, SIS accumulated information for thousands of users. Much of this information is no longer valid, and the transition to a new system provides an opportunity to clean things up. If you are planning to submit your content to SIGGRAPH 2018, we encourage you to create and set up a Linklings user account in advance of your program submission date. To set up your account, please visit Linklings and select the “create an account” link.

If you have questions about the transition, you may find this FAQ useful.

Deadlines
The SIGGRAPH 2018 Call for Submission happens in two phases. Submissions for Appy Hour, Art Papers, Courses, Emerging Technologies, Panels, Student Volunteers, Studio, Talks, and Technical Papers open today and have the earliest deadlines. Submissions for the Computer Animation Festival, Posters, Real-Time Live!, and Virtual, Augmented and Mixed Reality programs open in early 2018.

Programs like the Art Gallery, Business Development Forum and Production Sessions do not accept submissions and instead draw on curated content, though suggestions are welcome, particularly for the Production Sessions.

All program submission deadlines are firm. Make sure that you are aware of the deadline for your program of interest and that you set up a new user account in advance of starting your submission.

What’s New or Different in 2018

  • The Art Papers program will be accepting short papers this year in addition to long papers.
  • The Virtual, Augmented and Mixed Reality program — an expansion of the VR Village — will feature an immersive pavilion that houses multiple experiences, including an exhibition of the history of VR and the Computer Animation Festival’s second annual VR Theater.
  • For 2018, the Emerging Technologies program seeks to showcase emerging tech that exponentially expand three core areas of the human experience: health, home, and entertainment.
  • Re-thinking Courses: Of particular interest in 2018 is a fresh perspective on the historic Courses program. Consider submitting hands-on, long-form courses that foster a maker culture, short courses that connect to the Emerging Technologies, Studio or Art Gallery programs, or alternative courses that explore the history and culture of computer graphics.

We look forward to considering your submitted content, and gathering in Vancouver, 12-16 August, 2018 for SIGGRAPH 2018!
